Thrifting Manhattan Style...

Today, our first full day in NY, was full and fun! We spent most of the day 'thrifting' in Manhattan. The many months of research meant I have a pretty cohesive list of the best Thrift options in the area - today we focused our attentions on a cluster around East 22nd and 23rd Streets.  Here's what we found:

With it's cool branding, vintage interior and an art deco feel we struck gold immediately at City Opera Thrift Store, 222 East 23rd Street.

The helpful manager discussed her role at the store, her passion for the store was obvious in both what she said and the attention to detail in every aspect of the visuals in the store.

Prices were on the high side, less than boutique charity shopping in London but more than many of our boutique stores in the UK. However the stock was very good quality, mainly vintage, designer and high end high street labels so that probably explained the pricing.

My first thrifting purchases were both from the sale rail - of course! A cute little 'Ann Taylor LOFT' blue shift dress for $15 (£10) and a lovely grey 'Sarah Pacini' mohair cardigan for $18.75 (£12.50).

Double height store makes a great first impression

The reading/book sales area - my son Finn reading Noel Coward!
